Halloween-inspired DIY Recipes For A Spooky Night In

Posted by Be Fraiche on

The spookiest night of the year has almost arrived, Belles — Halloween! While we may be a little too old to go door-knocking for candy, we say it’s the perfect excuse to invite the girls over, watch some scary movies and do some Halloween-inspired pampering. Oh, and of course, eat plenty of chocolate! Here are some of our favourite DIY skincare recipes for for All Hallow’s Eve.

Prettifying pumpkin mask

This DIY recipe may not make you look as scary as a ghost or vampire mask, but we guarantee it’s a lot better for your skin! To create this prettifying mask, you simply need pumpkin puree, honey and milk. Pumpkin is ah-mazing for your skin, as it’s packed with fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which increase cell turnover to smooth and brighten the skin. It’s also packed with antioxidants Vitamin A and Vitamin C to boost collagen production to prevent the signs of ageing. Meanwhile, milk and honey are renowned for being incredibly soothing for the skin.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 tbs of cooked pumpkin puree.
  • 1 tsp of honey.
  • 1 tbs of milk.

How to make it:

  • Blend honey, milk and pumpkin puree in a bowl. Feel free to have a taste or save some to make a delicious pumpkin smoothie later!

How to use it:

  • Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water and voila — you’re left with plump, beautiful skin!

Funky Detox Bath Bomb

Bath bombs are a fun way to pamper your bod, and they’re so easy to make yourself. Put your mad scientist hat on and make yourself a detox bath bomb! We use activated charcoal to colour the bomb black but it also happens to be a great ingredient for detoxing and softening your skin. Add your favourite essential oils to create a luxurious bathing experience. We suggest using peppermint and citrus oils to lift your mood or chamomile and lavender oils for relaxation.

What you’lll need:

  • 2 tbs of baking soda
  • 1 tbs of citric acid (powder)
  • 1 tsp of activated charcoal
  • 1 tbs of sunflower oil
  • 5 drops of essential oil of choice

How to make it:

  1. Mix baking soda and citric acid in a bowl
  2. Slowly add sunflower oil into the powder mixture and mix well. The powder should stick together, but still be slightly dry
  3. Add 5 drops of essential oil, mix well
  4. Add activated charcoal to colour it black
  5. Pour / scoop your bath bombs mixture into the moulds, fill and press it tight
  6. Let your bath bombs dry in their moulds for at least 24 hours before removing

How to use it:

  • Fill your bath. Throw the bomb in and watch it fizzle! Enjoy your funky detox bath.

Natural Make Up Remover

So, you’ve been to a Halloween party and now it’s time to take all that heavy makeup off. Why not make your own, super soothing makeup remover?

What you’ll need:

  • ¼ cup of castor oil.
  • ¾ cup of grapeseed oil.

How to make it:

  1. Add the oils into a cup, blend well.
  2. Pour the oil in a bottle and use within 3 months!

How to use it:

  • Apply the oil on your face, massage the oil around the face to pick up dirt and makeup. Use a warm towel to wipe the oil off your face, repeat a few times until all the makeup is gone.  Your face is now clean, soft and supple!
